Writing this post from Lagos, Nigeria where i am spending my Christmas break. Got here like 3 days ago and the weather has been so nice. Its great to be able to escape the horrible cold for at least 2 weeks. Having fun spending the holidays with my family and friends even though i have to write 14,000 words by the 16 Jan for my course.
(took these pictures in Manchester before I left)

Love this skirt, was made by our seamstress in Nigeria who is amazing. As soon as we got to Nigeria, my mum called her over to make us some more stuff. I asked her to make a boxing kitten inspired dress and a skirt i saw on A Pair and A Spare. So far I got the boxing kitten inspired dress which i'm wearing tomorrow. Will show you guys soon :)

Its Christmas eve so im off to make some delicious food with my aunty for our Christmas lunch tomorrow! Have a great Christmas day everyone!

Strictly Gershwin.

I planned to put up this post about a month and then totally forgot I never did it. So this morning whilst procrastinating (oh so typical!) I found these hiding in a folder on my desktop. Perfect reason to stop preparing a presentation that is due for monday :-/ ... On to the post:

Over the summer Lola, a super fan of old Hollywood musicals, convinced me and our friend laura to buy tickets for this spectacular show.
Everything was done to perfection from the music to the dancing but the highlight was the costumes. GLITTER EVERYWHERE! It made me want to run home with a stick of crazy glue and a jar of the sparkly stuff.

Lace Dress

This is the second time i've used this background which is in the living room of our house and i love it. It's quite annoying taking pictures in the dark and it gets dark so quickly now so this is perfect. Hope you guys like it :) Had a very dressed down day for lectures and what not. I just love this dress on it own.

This year, I'm actually quite excited for Christmas to come round. I can't wait to see family and friends I've missed. So I've been busy buying Christmas presents and things to take on holiday. While I was in town I found a clearance office shop and decided to go check it out. While i was rooting around the extremely messy shop, I found these Jeffrey Campbell's from last season which I wanted for my 21st but they sold out so quickly. Tried them on with fingers crossed and luckily they were my size. Got them for only £25 so happy times. I shall probably wear them to death.

Have a Lovely week,

Leather Stripes

It's finally dawned on me that winter is here. I leave the house in the dark and return in the dark.
I see little to no sunshine during the weekdays so thank God it's the weekend.

Apologies for the extra massive hair...I kinda ran away from my hair straightners this morning.

Wearing the H&M leather skirt, mentioned in previous post, which I shortened. The top is a very recent buy from Primark. I went there to buy a cheap cable knit and came out with this instead. It looks great with a pair of jeans too so if you have a Primark nearby...get it!

One down side is the poorly sown on buttons, I have lost 3 already :-( but they can always be replaced.

Only 3 weeks before the Christmas holiday so that means a trip to the Christmas market, a few trips to the warehouse project and a couple university christmas dinners! Bring on the festivities.

Have a great weekend.

Haven't posted anything in awhile omg! All we have been doing is going to lectures and being busy busy busy. Which means very casual . Cant wait for Christmas to come round, going off to Nigeria for two weeks so i will get a break in the hot sun. I love sunny Christmases and I've always had it like that. that's the way it should be...according me to me anyway.

I love the colours on this shirt. Bought it in a thrift store which sells everything for £3 and under. steal! Shame it doesn't show properly on some of the pictures.

Casual Weekday

The other day i realised that my wardrobe of casual wear is very limited.
I own about 3 t-shirts and 3 pairs of jeans. My wardrobe mostly consists of sheer blouses, shirts and dresses.
So my take on casual often involves a shirt rather than a t-shirt.

I took a half day from university so that I could take my baby sister, who was visiting, to lunch and then quickly pop into the shops to sort out a Halloween costume.

After every halloween, I always plan to really make an effort next year but every year I leave my costume plans till last minute. This year is no different. This time last year I planned to go as the house from UP but ended up going as a Cougar/Leopard a la Kim Kardashian

Shirt/Zara, Trousers/Urban Outfitters, Shoes/Topshop

Those Topshop slippers are one of my favourite new buys. They add that extra touch of style to any outfit. Very tempted to buy the leopard print pair because for £22 (student discount), they are perfection.

Red Velvet

Have been away from blogging for abit now due to a very busy schedule. When i decided to take a masters, i assumed it would be fine and i'll have so much free time only to discover it was quite intensive. Well i obviously didn't get that memo. Spend majority of the day working on a presentation for a class i have on Monday and later going to trafford shopping centre for the first time since moving to Manchester in 2008.

Hiya to the new followers :)

Laced in Colours

I had a resolution for this new academic year and it was to try new things in Manchester. Since I am officially half way through my degree and this might be Lola's last year up in Manchester, we thought we should make the most of the "little" time we have left.

So we decided to try out Vertigo, a new restaurant in the heart of the city. The decor was not particularly to my taste...think glittery walls and sparkly chandeliers. However the food and service were exquisite. We had the six-course taster menu and the waiter serving the dishes was as pleasing on the eye as the plates he served. The standout dishes for both of us were the tomato consomme amuse bouche and the beech smoked salmon on a bed of beetroot risotto.

The verdict: I will definitely be returning when my pockets are full again.

Lola has been building on her DIYDS skills. She adapted this dress from a shirt she bought from a vintage store and I have to say it looks fab!

Next new thing to try: go to see a ballet...

DIYDS: Leopard Print Cross Shirt

After seeing this around for a very long time, i have been meaning to make my very own instead of spending loads on it from urban outfitters. But i always put things off and so planned to make more things and make use of my sewing machine. I got the fabric from a local shop and the basic shirt from Primark.

I cut out a decent cross which took ages to measure the right size. i made one too big and another too small, frustrating. Pinned it on to make sure it was in the right position.

and then sewed, Had to do this twice cause as you can see the edges of the material frayed quite alot so i did a straight stitch and then a zig zag stitch on the edge. Hopeully that helps it stay in place.

and voila! Very simple DIY and i can finally tick one thing off my list.

Silver Cuff

Fresher's week for the 4th time and I can't believe I still have 2 more to go.

Since lectures don't start till next week, Lola and I have had quite a lot of free time.
We spent the day collecting swag at the fresher's fair, buying homeware and eating Sushi. Good times!

I wore my new silver cuff I recently purchased from eBay. I had been eyeing up the H&M ones for a while now but when I saw this cuff from the same seller I bought my collar tips from (cant wait to wear them), I had to buy it.

Last Night #4 - Sakura

Been going out alot in the past week and catching up with friends seeing as its freshers week at our uni. All before the hard work starts! Went to this badly named place last night with our friend, Kerry. The music was dire but we always try to make the best out of everything! Pictures are from my iphone.

Oh so blue

We are both back to the North for another year of education and officially living in our new house in the city.

Two bathrooms, a study, a big kitchen and a's worlds apart from our old 6 bedroom student house. There will soon be a post dedicated to the house.

In honour of the rare blue skies in Manchester, we both wore outfits with a touch of blue.

Fikki: Top/Primark; Jeans/Urban Outfitters; Shoes/River Island; Clutch/TK Maxx

Jewellery: Bracelets/Kenya, Primark; Ring/Topshop

Lola: Skirt/Thrifted; Top/Primark; Belt/Primark; Shoes/Urban Outfitters

Being back in Manchester and having very little to do, we made a trip to the shops.

Lola and I went to our local haberdashery to pick up fabrics for some much anticipated DIYDS to pass sometime before lectures begin. We were thinking:

- rug skirts in the style of one of our favourite blogs, a pair and a spare.
- sheer tops and dresses
- shirt dresses
- snake print and polkadots

Once these creations are done, we will definitely be sharing them with you.

PS: What do you think of the new layout?

Lust List: Collar Tips and Crochet Shorts #1

It was all about the collar tips at the Balenciaga s/s 11 runway show. However, it has taken me nearly a year to make my trip to the wild west. This cow-boy inspired accessory is on my current lust-list for the autumn and I think it will make a great addition to the androgynous trend of this season.

I currently have my eye on a silver pair on ebay but you can also get them from asos for a cool £10. But if you are feeling bad-ass, you can shell out a nice £185 for the balenciaga pair.

I'm thinking of teaming mine with a peaked collar shirt, ankle grazing black skinnies and a pair of brogues. I was slightly tempted to try my hand at the some DIY tips but once I realised a hammer and pliers would be involved, I thought otherwise.

Summer might have been over in May in the England but when it comes to my wardrobe, sometimes it's summer all year round. I have been known to wear shorts without tights in the snow and a summer dress and jacket in January. So adding a pair of crochet shorts to my autumn wardrobe is no different. I have been lusting after a pair for months now and have already failed once on ebay. So if anyone knows where I can get a pair for less than £20, let me know.
