Wrap Me Up

                                           Skirt/Charity Shop; Jumper/H&M; Necklace/Topshop; Boots/So You Shoes

Wore this out today to the christening for my cousin's baby. The skirt is another something I bought for the summer but works quite well in the winter with boots and a jumper. It was purchased for a measly £3 from a charity shop in Didsbury on a trip Laura from Chambray + Curls and I took to sample the shops and restaurants in the area. If anyone lives in Manchester, I recommend you visit their charity shops. They are surprisingly very cheap.

DIYDS: Holiday Pieces #1

Welcome to another edition of 'do it your damn self'. This time round it's pieces I have made for my upcoming holiday to Nigeria. Usually before going almost every Christmas  my mum buys plenty of chiffon so our seamstress there can make us whatever we want. You can see some of the things I have had made in this post and this post. While on one of this fabric buying trips, I bought fabric to make something for this summer just gone but never got round to actually sewing anything. This was the perfect opportunity to finally make something nice for my holiday and to improve my sewing skills. I have been sewing on and off since I was 14 when I took professional classes and was sewing baby dresses but with time and little continued practise, I forgot most of what I learnt. When I got a sewing machine from my mum for my 21st birthday, I just really wanted to learn again just for myself.

The first two pieces I tried out was this skirt and a top using the same fabric. I plan to wear them together on holiday but also wear them as separates. This is all trial and error so there are mistakes here and there especially on the hem line but I am pretty much an amateur at sewing. I'm just happy I am actually able to make something that is wearable. Initially, I was planning to make a dress but its quite a heavy print so having some skin helps give it some balance and would show me wearing the clothes rather than the clothes wearing me. If that makes any sense.

I went through a whole love and hate relationship with the print. When I bought it, I loved then then put it in the back of my fabric box cause I hated it. Its definitely not everyone's cup of tea. After making this with it, I'm in love all over again. It's perfect for a sunny holiday and I can't wait to wear it properly.

It took me ages to take these pictures as the rain wouldn't stop long enough for me to get some outside. Hope everyone is having a warm snuggly weekend indoors.

InLoveWithFashion Design Event

I got the chance to attend the In Love With Fashion Next Top Designer Launch courtesy of Crown and Glory after winning a competition they had. The designer launch was a competition to create a dress which would be sold on the website. The winning dress was absolutely lovely one with lace detailing at the top which fitted nicely in the brand's aesthetic. There was lots of champagne and a 'garden' of cupcakes for all the guests to munch on. There was also sample sale of ILWF dresses for £10 and I found the perfect dress for my new years eve party. I can't wait to wear it and I recommend their site if anyone's hunting for party dresses. Wish I had more cash as I would have got more stuff but I can still always get it on their website.

Topshop Jewellery

Going to Nigeria in 5 weeks (very excited!) so I've been getting a few things here and there when I have the chance to. I love going down every Christmas as its so hot and sunny, just like a second summer holiday. The good thing about shopping is all the summer stuff is in the sale at this time so it doesn't hurt my bank account. Went down to Topshop for jewellery because when they have a sale, they really slash the prices. Now I just need to find the perfect New Year's Eve dress.

Last Night #6 - Birthday Party

More like three nights ago. But this is what we wore to our friend Kerry's birthday night out in Manchester. It was a great chance for us to have a little bit of fun with friends as Fikki has exams coming up very soon. I'm surprised we actually even managed to take pictures at all before going out.

A Cold Bonfire Night

For some reason, I am always amazed by fireworks. Even if the display is more 'local village fete' than 'new year's eve at the sydney opera house', I always seem to have this gormless expression as I stare at bright lights in the sky...and November 5th 2012 was no exception.

Coat/Zara; Wellies/Random

I went down to Platt fields park in Manchester with a few friends and it seemed the whole city was there to join in with the festivities. A frosty night in a muddy field...good thing i decided to wear my wellies and the thickest coat I own (it's in desperate need of a dry clean).

A combination of  fun fair rides costing £6-a-go (ridiculous) and lack of sensation in my toes meant that we cut the night short. We grabbed a cheeky late night takeaway (chunky chicken!) and chilled out in the warmth with a nice cup of tea.

A great evening celebrating a long-standing British tradition...x

Gothic Placement Print

First had my eye on these jeans when I saw a preview of the Motel collection at the My Celebrity Fashion event. Eventually got them when motel had a 50% off everything sale. It's such a great print and although I initially found it hard to style, the key is to make sure everything else is neutral.
And no, I did not go out like this, Its freezing. I was wrapped up warm after taking these but I'm pretty sure I caught a cold from taking these pictures. Nevertheless, natural light is my best friend.
