Last Night #7 - Warehouse Project

Lola: Jacket/Cow Vintage; Cut Offs/Urban Outfitters
Fikki: Jumper/ Cow Vintage; Dress/Shout

Pictures from Instagram (you can follow us by clicking on the links on the side bar)

On Friday night, we both went to Warehouse Project for our friend's birthday and this what we wore. We are both wearing the same sunglasses from Primark, which were only £1. The great thing about having cheapo sunglasses for nights out is that when they break, there's more where they came from. Same pose as well, - unintentional!

Hope everyone is having a lovely Easter weekend with their families.

Vauxhall New Talent | Manchester Fashion Week

When Vauxhall were teamed up with Fashion Scout in London for the off schedule London Fashion Week shows, they were responsible for exposing new talent to the fashion world and providing a way to support and showcase innovation. Having the opportunity to attend a few Fashion Scout shows for AW13 gave us the chance to lust over new favourites and see new talent being nurtured by the fashion industry. Vauxhall have now parted ways with Fashion Scout and have moved up north to find new talent under the Manchester Fashion Week umbrella.

This month, Manchester Fashion Week are launching a competition with Vauxhall to find creative new designers who will showcase their designs on the catwalk at fashion week. Six finalists will be given the chance to have a full show on the runway with a full production crew. To enter, the designer has to be located in the North and have a brand set out within the last three years. To see more about how to enter as a designer, the massive prize for the winner at the end of the show and full terms and conditions, check out the New Talent page.

With the recent news that Vogue will be bringing Fashion Night Out to Manchester in October and the up coming fashion week, Manchester is really being put on the map and are continuing to show the reputation for being fashionable and creative. I believe this is a a great opportunity and platform for new designers and this is one show I am really looking forward to as it would be great to see what the north has to offer creatively.

The Vauxhall New Talent show will be held on the 25 April, so if you would like to attend, tickets are available on the website. Tickets are now also available for the first three days (high street brands) which include Boohoo, Forever 21, Next, Reiss and Ted Baker amongst others. Manchester Fashion Week will be hosting 30 shows over the week, with the first three days dedicated to high street fashion, the fourth day for new talent, the fifth day, a luxury design showcase and a bridal edit on the last day. Check out the mcrfw website for more information on the events and the latest news.

Thriftette Holographic Top

Crop/Thriftette; Trousers/Topshop; Black Shirt/Charity Shop; Shoes/H&M

Currently on a two week break from Law school although 'break' is a deceiving word considering I have four really long exams once the two weeks are up. This means getting my head down and studying like crazy.  I still don't know why I do this to myself. At least it all ends on the day Manchester Fashion Week starts so that Fikki and I can properly enjoy that. Speaking of which, the tickets are out now so go on the MCRFW website if you would like to attend. We are also going to the #northmeetup planned by Em - Em Talks. Looking forward to meeting all the northern bloggers and if you are going let us know in the comment section.

I came across Thrifette while shopping around in Affleck's Palace back in January and fell in love. The brand sell new and vintage clothes and accessories, of which their holographic tops caught my attention. They will soon also be stocking Waiste and are having an event to launch this. So if you are in Manchester on the day, do pop down.

I was going to wear a different version for LFW but it was out of stock at the time. So I went back and got this crop instead and since then I've worn it like crazy. For this look, I decided to pair it with a pair of semi tailored trousers and a slouchy shirt over it for a day time look. I have also worn it out on nights out with denim cut offs.

As so can see, although its not snowing in Manchester (I do not do snow pictures, unless you want to see me in joggers), it is really windy so it was a struggle trying to take these. Ignore the strand of hair sticking up - If you can.

Also, currently obsessively listening to Justin Timberlake's new album - The 20/20 Experience. Its such an accomplished, grown up sound from JT. Especially love Pusher Love Girl and Strawberry Bubbblegum. Anyone else loving the album as much as I am? I can't wait to see him with Fikki and other friends at the Wireless festival in July.

Sunday Lunch | What Fikki Wore

Fur gilet / Zara (similar here); Jumper / Topshop; Skirt / Vintage (similar here); Bag / Michael Kors; Boots / Primark; Ring / Primark

The same day Lola wore her £10 coat to lunch, I chose to pull out my fur gilet from Zara. I bought it a couple years ago and wear it maybe 3/4 times a year and each time I think I should get more wear out of it. The skirt is a vintage piece I have had for 4 years. I'm the sort of person that never throws clothes out unless they no longer fit (rarely) or look shabby. I love the brocade/jacquard (does anyone know the difference?) fabric. Here is a selection of similar skirts in the shops at the moment, and they are all on sale.

1) Asos   2)Rock and Rags at Firetrap   3)Asos

Hope you're all having a good week!

Sunday Lunch | What Lola Wore

Jacket/Primark; Trousers/Thrifted; Top/H&M; Bag/Thrifted; Boots/So You Shoes

Last Sunday, since Fikki and I were without our mums for mother's day we went for lunch with our friend Kerry at Rosso. If you live in Manchester or the surrounding areas, I really do recommend going there and trying out their lunch menu. I am wearing a coat I recently bought from Primark in their sale for £10, I love the oversized fit and the speckled bits of white. They did well on this one and for £10 I really could not grumble (as i usually do when i see the unrealistic prices on some items in there). This is definitely one of my go to coat for the spring, if it ever decides to come around. Paired it with trousers I found in a charity shop a long while back and my trusty boots. Hope everyone is having a lovely relaxing weekend.

Bouclé Chic

Jacket/Primark; Top/Thrifted; Trouser/H&M; Shoes/New Look; Necklace/Topshop; Bag/Michael Kors

Still wondering how I wore this jacket without a coat as it was absolutely freezing that day. My fingers were stiff for a long time afterwards because I spent ages faffing with the tripod in zero degree weather. I wore this outfit to church on Sunday and for the most of it, the outfit is basically a collection of things I have owned for a while. The necklace is bordering on 4 years old. But not the jacket...I bought it from Primark last week along with some other fab goodies from Zara, H&M and a few thrifted items. I should totes do a haul. The jacket was on sale for £5 from £20. Bouclé jackets, made famous by the House of Chanel, literally smarten any outfit. This one joins my collection of many bouclé jackets, which will one day include a Chanel (a girl can dream).

P.S We have thrown our names in the hat for the Company Blogger Awards and would be really grateful if you guys could nominate us under the 'Blogging as a Duo' category. Thank you!

& Other Stories

& Other Stories is a brand from the people at H&M which recently caught my eye when browsing for new brands. The concept for the brand is one based on their understanding that "a woman with a love for fashion creates her own style...she wears things that feel right to her and reflect her personality" i.e allow the customer to choose how they wear it. The brand wants to show we create our own style based on composition of the inspiration we get from all the different sources of social media including from us bloggers. The way in which the set out the pictures on the website easily reflects this notion setting it out as you would see on the pages of a magazine or on tumblr perhaps.

One one hand, the branding seems to piggy back on the personalization of fashion through social media but it is great marketing - it got my attention! The brand consists of tailored pieces with minimalism and structure that just screams Scandinavian coolness. It all feels quite light and is very similar to COS with the addition of cool metallics and gorgeous prints. I also love the focus on styling in the lookbooks on their website. Here are a few of the pieces I picked out from a browse, I really love the print dress and the perforated wedges.

What do you guys think?

You Are My Sunshine

 Skirt/Zara; Shoes/H&M

Still without a dslr as I am on the hunt for a new charger so iPhone pictures it is, even though the grainy quality irritates me. I went out Thursday night for a few drinks with a course mates from law school to celebrate finishing the first of our long line of exams. I used it as a opportunity to try out a tutorial I saw on Gwen's blog - This Fashion Is Mine for a DIY mesh crop top. All it requires is cutting out the feet and cutting out a space for your head at the crotch. It took two attempts and one house mate to get it done but once done its a simple and cheap way to make yourself a top for any outfit. Paired with my new shoes from the H&M sale, only £15. What a bargain!

A Little Thank You #1....Manchester Fashion Week Blogger Gift Box

As official bloggers for Manchester Fashion Week , we get sent #MCRFW gift boxes every month until the end of Manchester Fashion Week, which runs from Monday 22nd till Friday 26th of April. A box of goodies...monthly...what's not to love and means that we get the chance to share with you some on-trend brands and products.

When the first package came in the post, I (fikki) couldn't wait for Lola so opened it up, shot-gunned what I wanted (mmmm chocolates!) and wrapped it up again so Lola would never know...mwahahaha! Anywoos, here is the low-down on what was in the box...

A box full of goodies!

A range of beauty products

Lancome Hypnose Drama Mascara (sample) - This high-end mascara (£22) that definitely does what it says. I have been using it for the last few days and it made my lashes look longer and voluminous. Definitely a keeper!

Lancome Genifique Yeux Eye Cream (sample) - Another Lancome product... It retails at £39 so isn't cheap but I suppose for a lady with a few wrinkles the price tag is not an issue. Although we're both thankfully still wrinkle free, we'll try this product for a while to see if it makes our eyes pop...

Inner Me’s Lustrous Locks Vitamin Complex - Vitamins are one of those things that I (fikki) always wish I remembered to take. On days when I do remember to take one, I always forget whether I had taken one that day; putting me at risk of a vitaminosis (medical word on fashion blog alert!). So the daily labelling on the blister pack of this product makes it very user friendly (£15 for a 2 week supply).

We were both curious to find out what was inside the little box from Accessoryo

And inside was this pair of Accessoryo Wayfarer Sunglasses. Perfect for summer! There might be a bit of a squabble over who gets these. On their website they sell a huge range of items from handbags to jewellery to umbrellas.

Lastly the box contained a bunch of edible goodies.

Popchips Potato Crisps - These were everywhere at LFW and at with less than 100 calories in a bag I see why. The only thing is I wish they sent the thai sweet chilli flavour instead :-( but the salt and pepper ones were yummy too (69p a bag).

Teapigs Peppermint Tea - My housemate who is a tea fiend (she has about 10 varieties at any one time) raves about Teapigs products and I take her word for it. Products retail from about £3.99 for 15 tea bags and they do sell smaller samples. I may have to try their popcorn tea!

Megaload Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups - It's like someone knew how much I am currently loving peanut butter after not having it for years. Yummy treat!

Hotel Chocolat Sleekster Milk Oblivion Box - I am supposed to be on a semi diet (all girls are always on a diet) but these were hard to resist and I am not even a chocoholic. The flavours are fantastic from Sea salt to mocha to choc-chip *drooling as I type. I am finding it hard to leave some for Lola! They retail at £22 and are the perfect gift for a chocoholic as I think the flavours make them worth the money.

Is there anything on the list that takes your fancy? Can't to see wait to get the next Manchester Fashion Monthly!
