Travel | Photo Diary | Year of the Horse

A little treat from the lions!

Yusheng (prosperity toss); Year of the horse; Hanging red laterns

Happy Chinese New Year (for yesterday)!!!!

It's been great being in Kuala Lumpur during this time of year. Everyone is in such high spirits and it feels a bit like Christmas out here. But the best thing, as with any public holiday, are the days off work. So my friend and I have a few days to explore and experience some of what KL has to offer.

The past few days have been a lot of fun. I was invited to an amazing dinner with my supervisor, his family and a few other colleagues which was an interesting culinary experience. Dinner consisted of yusheng (see picture above), a variety of divine seafood, a taste (couldn't have much more) of a century egg. Unfortunately pulling out a bulky DSLR at the start of each course just didn't seem appropriate so sorry for a lack of photos.

Once I knew I would be in KL for CNY seeing a lion/dragon dance was top of my list and it was totally worth it. After waiting around for a while the 30 minute show was worth the wait. The lions gave us a great dance, cheeky in some parts, and I even went home with a little treat which nearly knocked me out as it was throttled into the crowd.

All in all, a good few days. Off to Chinatown at some point this weekend for more festivities!
