Event | Puffa AW14 Launch

Puffa is a brand that I was not familiar with so when Fikki and I were invited to the showcase of their AW14 men and women collection last month, I was eager to see what the brand was all about. Unfortunately, Fikki was away in New York at the time so I popped down on my own and met up with other lovely Manchester bloggers. The launch was held in the Hip Hop Chip Shop in Spinningfields, the Left bank area, which I am very suprised to see built up and running from what was formerly a derelict area.

Travel | New York, New York

Quite coincidentally, this year we both took trips to America with our families. Lola jetted off to New York for a week and had an overnight stay in Philadelphia for her cousin's graduation in May. Whilst, Fikki took a trip to New York, Philadelphia and Washington for her dad's birthday in September. As we had quite different experiences on our trip, we thought it would be best to combine them for our travel review. First up the Big Apple - Although Lola had been to New York as a child, her memories of it are quite absent so we have written this post as first time travellers. This is not a definite list of things to do in New York but if you are there for more than a week, these are a few things we recommend doing as a tourist.

National Trust - Quarry Bank Mill, Cheshire

In a week, I leave Manchester to move to Lagos, Nigeria for a while! It's been a real scramble to buy al the things I need whilst making sure I see all my friends before I leave. A catch up with my friend, Laura was way overdue.

Instead of meeting over coffee or lunch, we decided to visit one of the many National Trust sites as Laura has National Trust membership. Plenty of jokes about how Laura is a 20 something year old member. We settled on Quarry Bank Mill as it was within great driving distance. Quarry Bank has been on my radar ever since watching the tv series, The Mill on Channel 4 which was a frank drama about the lives of the people, mostly children who worked in the mills during the industrial revolution. The Channel 4 drama draws on the experiences in a serious and gritty manner and although very somber, is a great watch.

Travel | Amsterdam, Netherlands

Way back in March, Fikki and I along with some other friends went to Amsterdam for a long weekend. The trip was planned as a very lovely 25th birthday surprise for me. I have always wanted to visit Amsterdam for as long as I can remember and at one point was planning a birthday trip there which flopped. I guess my friends all got tired of me talking about Amsterdam all the time.

Getting to the city and travelling to our hotel was quite eventful. As soon as we go there, there was a power cut in the north of the Netherlands including Amsterdam! We got to the airport thinking it was pretty dark and dingy only to realise we had entered chaos. This meant all the trams and trains were down and the only mode of transport was bus. After realising that queueing is definitely a British thing, we made to our hotel and found a small restaurant that would do us some quick food without the use of too much power. So what would Fikki and I recommend about Amsterdam for a long weekend trip?

Fashion | Autumn Is Upon Us

It's that time of year again. The leaves are turning brown, curling up and beginning to fall. Sadly, this time around I will be spending most of my favourite season in scrubs. I am currently rotating through the Emergency Department as a junior doctor and I already officially half way through the 4 month block. Whilst the hours have been long and the shifts intense, so far, it has been an amazing experience. For the first time since qualifying I feel like an real doctor and I have to say I am loving it.
