As you already know from, our previous New york post, I recently went on a trip to the United States with my family. Due to work commitments I was only able to join them for the last day of their time in Washington D.C. Sadly, although they had 3/4 days to spend in the capital, this was cut short to only 2 due to flight restrictions from New York city on September 11. They had to spend a night camping in an airport in New York :-( before they finally got to Washington.
I think my arrival put a smile on their faces after their horrible ordeal travelling to get there.
So if you are like us and only have limited time in what looked like a stunning city, get a ticket for a hop-on-hop-off bus tour and take in the historical sites that the city has to offer. As a first timer in Washington and the USA, I was excited to take my obligatory photo outside the White House. I felt like Olivia Pope as I walked from the White House towards the Washinton Monument, minus the Prada bag, white coat and white hat (Scandal reference).
I wore this multicoloured paisley dress from Missguided paired with basic sandals and a bag, big enough to hold my DSLR and zoom lens, from Primark. The sunglasses which I think complete the 60s vibe to the look are also a £1 stunner from Primark.
One thing that I found very fascinating about my trip to the Washington was how new everything was. It was a great reminder that the USA is actually a fairly new country and old on that side of the pond means anything built as early as about 1700 AD. A short drive away from most British homes will bring you to a structure much, much older.
As I only spent a day in Washington, I would not object to heading back there again in the future to take in more of what the city has to offer. However, I think seeing all the main monuments once is more than enough.
