Beauty | Lola's Make Up Favourites

Picture taken from my instagram - @lolapastimebliss

I'm no beauty expert. I don't purport to be. My knowledge of make up was limited to MAC and sleek. They have great products for dark skin tones and I was always of the opinion that if it is not broken, don't fix it. However, a few months ago, I decided that I really wanted to step up my make game and make it look sleeker with better products. What followed was a crash course into make up by speaking to my friends and watching a whole ton of YouTube videos. I swear everytime Fikki came into my room for a two week period, I was watching make up tutorials with such concentration. After my crash course, I learnt what I liked and what suited by skin tone. I still do not like to use a lot of make up and try as much as possible to keep it as light as possible. Also my eye liner is still wonky but one step at a time. So below, I share with you some of my favourite products.

Bobbi Brown Luminous Moisturising Treatment Foundation
I normally use MAC's Studio Fix Fluid. It's great for my oily skin and provides great coverage. However, I wanted to find an alternative when I necessarily could not get MAC and had been wanting to try Bobbi Brown. I use this Bobbi Brown foundation in warm almond and its a great daytime cover. It's quite light so if you want heavy coverage then this is definitely not the foundation for you. I purchased this at the McArthur Glen Designer outlet and not sure where I can get another bottle.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Cream Kit ($40)
Whether you agree or not, contouring belongs to the drag queens. I have been watching Ru Paul's Drag Race for a long time and Anastasia Beverly Hills always add a supply of products as part of the winner's prize or maybe for a challenge win. Now this has been transferred into 'mainstream' consciousness and you can literally find a contouring tutorial online to fit anything you desire. I got the contour cream kit as a birthday present from Fikki and it is a beautiful product to put on. Because it is a cream based product, it is not too oily for my skin, can be used without a powder if you wish and is great for the hot weather I am currently in. I mainly use it for special occasions and use the product below daily.

LA Girl Pro Conceal - concealers and correctors (£4.99)
This is one product that was a definite recommendation from YouTube vloggers. They are supposed to be a great dupe for the MAC pro longwear concealer and come in so many shades. They are so cheap (around £3 to £5 each depending on the store) that you can buy so many and test them out or concealing and contouring. They also have great correctors which are perfect for covering dark circles and hyper pigmentation. Want to know how to use a corrector properly - check out this great tutorial by Jackie Aina. Her videos are very informative but also quite funny.

LA Colours Mineral Pressed Powder (£4.99)
Normally I would us the Ben Nye Banana Powder Kim K so kindly introduced us to for setting concealer but its way too bright for everyday make up. I wanted a cheap and cheery product I could use if I used a little bit of concealer everyday.

Makeup Revolution Vivid Baked Bronzer (£4)
I have been told that bronzers are great for black skin tones and I am slowly being convinced of this. I use this night time looks or for weddings. It's so shimmery and pretty plus, its so cheap.

Sleek Matte Lipstick in Exxaggerate (£4.99)
One thing I love buying, even before my experimenting with makeup is lipsticks. Sleek actually do a great range of lipsticks especially the matte ones. Personally, I do not like my lips shiny or gloss and tend to stay away from lip products that produce that. Fikki and I love this Sleek shade so much. So much so that any point in our flat we would have maybe 4 of them dotted around our room. It's such a great shade of purple that really complements dark skin and we both wear it so much - see posts here, here, here and here. I really cannot stop raving on and on about this lipstick.

And for the beauty vloggers that have been instrumental in me finding my staples or providing great tutorials.

Do you use any of these products? What do you think? Do you use anything much better?
